A switch or turnout, is a mechanical installation letting railway trains be guided from one track to another, Switches, also called turnouts or points, are an important part of any model railroad. The larger the number switch the longer the switch is or the larger radius. There are many different kinds of switches / turnouts including wye switch, Curved switches, slip and double slip switch, 3 way switch and more.
