Micro Structures Micro Structures, along with Lightworks USA, are divisions of Miller Engineering, which was founded by Chris Miller in 1997. The company is located in Stamford, Connecticut. The Miller Engineering lines manufacture a vast selection of photo-etched, brass, and stainless-steel structures, as well as Electroluminescent (EL) lighting kits.

Most Miller Engineering Signs and Billboards come with a battery-pack power supply that runs on 3 AAA batteries (the batteries themselves are not included in the kits). Beyond simply using the included battery pack, you can also power Miller Engineering's Signs and Billboards in the following ways:

1. Miller Engineering makes two wall-mount AC Adapters (Miller Engineering #4802 and #4803) that can replace the battery pack that comes with their kits. You will need the Miller Engineering 4805 Power Distribution Board in order to complete this. If you are just powering 1 Sign or Billboard, you can simply plug the #4802 AC Adapter into the receptacle of the Miller Engineering 4805 Power Distribution Board. If you want to power multiple Signs and Billboards, Miller Engineering #4802 will run up to 3 signs, while Miller Engineering #4803 will run up to 10 signs when used with the #4805 Power Distribution Board.

2. You can also power your Miller Engineering Signs and Billboards via Track Power (Signs would only light if power is on the track) or through a separate transformer by using the #4804 Animated Sign Converter Module. You can hook the 4804 up to the accessory output of their train transformer as long as it is not over 17 volts.

3. If you simply want to display one of Miller Engineering's Signs or Billboards outside of your layout, the DTN (Desk Top Neon) Sign Base (Miller Engineering #002) is ideal. The DTN Sign Base runs on 3 AAA batteries (not included), or can also be powered with the Miller Engineering #4800 AC Adapter for DTN Base.

If you are using a Miller Engineering #990 Billboard support with your sign. Miller Engineer recommends a CA Glue with a medium viscosity. If you want to place your billboard directly onto a building they recommend a dab of hot melt glue.  Adult supervision may be required. Glue is sold separately.

Purchasing a Miller Engineering window sign? The window signs come with an oversize clear background that is meant to be cut to the size of your window opening. Once cut to size it is meant to replace the clear window that was originally in the building. This gives a much more realistic neon-looking window sign!
