In the first two decades after the war, the fire departments were not particularly keen on front-wheel drive vehicles; the hoods were valued highly. The Mercedes Benz Pullman chassis remained exceptional in the fire stations and were only occasionally put into regular service. Accordingly, the WIKING model with a turntable ladder structure is quite rare at the Mannheim location. It wasn't until the 1970s that the tide would slowly turn, because after the Pullman series and the cubic series, only the following new generation would succeed in gaining a foothold there, ultimately ending the Hauber era in the fire departments.
